Stannah from Heaven
That’s the headline Scotland’s Daily Record gave to the story of Kirsten McLaughlin, 33 year old mum of two and a multiple sclerosis sufferer.
Graham Barr, from Stannah’s Glasgow branch, first read about Kirsten’s misfortune in August in The Daily Record. A silver medal in Tae Kwon-Do in the 2006 World Championships Kirsten and husband Alan had been turned down for a disability living allowance because her husband was able to ‘carry her upstairs’. Graham, a keen Tae Kwon-Do enthusiast was touched by the story and knew Stannah in Glasgow could come to the rescue and install the gift of a stairlift.
Kirsten said: ‘You have no idea how much of a difference the stairlift has made – I can’t thank Stannah and The Record enough. The future is a bit brighter still as the Work and Pensions Department have overturned their previous decision to give me an allowance.’
Jon Stannah made the trip up to Scotland to accompany Graham Barr to officially hand over the lift.
Jon comments: ‘Our Glasgow branch heard about Kirsten’s fight for help and we were delighted to make our small contribution of a stairlift to enable her to manage the stairs on her own – and give Alan’s back a well-earned rest!’
Stannah will be dropping in regularly to see Kirsten and make sure her stairlift gets a regular service!
